5 Tips on How to Improve Your Marriage

Marriage is fun, exciting, and incredibly rewarding but it can and will also be really hard at times. Marriage has a lot of up and downs and a lot of highs and lows. If you are married you know this and you know how worth it, it is. Here are some simple things you can do to make the ups last longer and the highs sweeter.

1. Get Away

Do you remember your honeymoon and how sweet it was to get away from the entire world for a few days and just focus on the person you love? Honeymoons are designed to let newlyweds just be together with out the pressures of their friends, family, and society. They are designed to let the new lovers start their marriage out on a wonderful note. If you are married you need to have honeymoons often. This might look like going all out and traveling to a different country or it might be staying a few nights in a really nice hotel in a city near by. Whichever you do, it is so important for marriages to have a break from life. It is so important to set time aside where you can completely focus on one another.

2. Play Games

This might sounds silly and it really is. Laughter and fun is so important in a marriage and with all the responsibilities of life and family it can be so easy to over look this essential aspect of marriage. Playing a game can look like a board game, a video game (if you enjoy that), or a game in the bedroom. The point is to have fun and enjoy yourself and each other in the process. Life is hard, full of decisions, and heavy burdens. This is something you cannot control but you can control the amount of laugher and fun within your marriage.

3. Ask Questions

Have you ever really sat down and asked your spouse serious questions about how they are doing mentally, physically, and emotionally? Most of the time as humans we tend to hide our true feelings not because we don’t want anyone to know but because we don’t think any one really care’s. Let your spouse know that you really care about every single aspect of their life by asking questions. The questions you ask don’t always have to be serious. Ask question about their childhood and different things before they met you. Getting to know each other better is the ultimate goal.

4. Double Date

Double dating is incredibly fun and a great reminder of how much you love each other. If you are going through a rough patch find another couple that you know has a strong marriage and double date with them. Seeing true love inspires true love. Another great thing about double dating is if the couple you choose to go with are people that you trust and respect you can talk to them about what is going on and see what they do in those types of situations.

5. Home Security System

This might sound silly but a home security system might just save your marriage. Especially for women our need to feel secure is great; living in a home that we do not feel safe in will affect every single aspect of our lives. On another note I found a company called Smith Monitoring that specializes in alarm systems, they offer features that will diffuse so many daily arguments. Have you ever been lying in bed with your spouse arguing about who is going to get up and turn off the light or change the thermostat? Smith Monitoring offers an app that controls all of the lights and appliances (including the thermostat) from your smart phone. How incredible is that!
