Don’t Forget These 3 Things When You Move House

From start to finish, moving days are notoriously chaotic. You have hundreds of things you need to remember from large pieces of furniture right down to simple pieces of paperwork. So it’s hardly surprising that some things can get forgotten during their process. While some of these things are minor, others can make your house move more stressful than it needs to be. Here are three common things that many homeowners forget, which they wish they hadn’t.

Label your boxes

This might sound obvious, but it’s something that many homeowners forget to do. This is often because they have left their packing to the last minute. This can make it almost impossible for you and the moving company to know what is in each box once it’s sealed. Once you get to your new home, nobody will know which room each box is meant to be in. Ultimately this can take up valuable time and energy as you won’t know where anything is until it’s unpacked. So always take the time to label your boxes, stating the room it is meant to be in and whether fragile items are inside.

Doing a final check

Final checks around each room in your old home are essential and should be done before you leave. There could be some boxes which might have been missed or items that you have forgotten to pack. It could be difficult to retrieve these items once the new owners are in the property, and they could get thrown out as a result. So even though you will be eager to get to your new home, take the time to check each room. Ask your friends and family to help you to this to make this process quicker. Remember to look in drawers, on high shelves and under any furniture you may be leaving behind. It may be beneficial to have a spare box or bags which you can use should you uncover anything during your checks.

Making sure you have all the keys

Nothing is more exciting than getting the keys to your new house after months of waiting. But in the excitement of it all, it can be easy to forget to make sure you have all the keys you need. The last thing you want is to arrive at your new home and be unable to gain entry. Check with the previous owners that they have at least one full set of keys for the property. You should also ask them to provide security alarm codes too. Once you’ve moved in, don’t forget to change the locks and to replace each key.

There should be no reason for you to forget anything during your house move now you know what to avoid. To help you gain even more control and to reduce the risk of you overlooking something, download a moving checklist. Tick off each task once it’s completed and use it to keep track of what’s been put into the moving van. This will give you peace of mind and makes your move far less stressful.
