If you are planning a trip over to jolly old England, then I am pretty envious. There are so many places to visit and things to see. The history is amazing and kind of blows my mind. London is of course on the list to visit. London has several international airports so a lot of visitors will fly into the south. There is a lot more than just London with plenty to do, though.
London is a must, being the capital. It is full of the usual popular sights like Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye. It has great shops and restaurants and plenty of other things to see and do. A show in the West End has to be done too. A short train ride out of London and you’ll be heading towards either Oxford or Cambridge. They are both beautiful cities that are almost based around two of the world’s most famous universities. Cambridge is probably better to see during better weather so that you can go punting on the river. Oxford can be visited whenever. You can get a tour of the University and even see some areas where Harry Potter was filmed.
You could head further south and go to the south coast. Brighton is a vibrant and fun city. Its pebble beach and arcades make it such a fun day out. Make sure you get fish and chips and have a walk on the pier. If you are going to head slightly north out of London, then Stratford-upon-Avon needs to be visited. It is 400 years that Shakespeare died there, the place that he was born too. There is a new theatrical experience at the Royal Shakespeare Company. There is also an exhibition showing the company’s history. There is a restoration of the last home that Shakespeare lived in, as well as the opening of his room at school at King Edward VI school. It can get busy with tourists but it is worth a visit.
There are plenty of things to do further north too. The Yorkshire Dales are stunning so a walk there and a visit to Brimham Rocks is a must. The east coast of the UK is beautiful, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay being particularly stunning. The west coast is home to places like Blackpool and Liverpool. Blackpool has a huge amusement park, as well as a zoo and great places to eat. The White Tower restaurant comes highly recommended. Liverpool is a must for any Beatles fans. It is a fun city, with a diverse and varying culture.
You could, of course, head further north and visit the lake district area. If you love to walk and hike, then it is the most beautiful area of England, I think. You could spend at least a week exploring all of the cute villages in that area, and still not see everything. Have you visited any of these places before? Where would you recommend not to miss? Enjoy your trip to England!
