A garden should be a space that you can truly unwind in and relax. However, we can’t all be blessed with huge gardens. Some of us have to make do with smaller spaces. But that doesn’t mean that we have to settle with whatever state it’s currently in. Even smaller gardens can be gorgeous. They can just as easily be full of life and color as well. You’ll have to get creative and you’re going to have to learn a thing or two. But if you’re willing to put in the work, you’ll have your own little relaxing corner of heaven.
Why do it?
Some may despair of the nature of the garden. They might look at the space between the walls and fences and wonder why bother. Well, there are plenty of good reasons for that. One is that a green, well-maintained garden can help reduce stress and makes it easier to relax. In the opposite direction, a hap-hazard, cluttered garden can feel claustrophobic. Especially if it’s a small space. But having a beautiful garden has other benefits. For one, if you own the place, it could help give your home a spike in value. Curb appeal is something that’s great for selling a home, after all.
Choose your plant-life carefully
Given the space of your garden, you’re going to need to choose plants that you can fit in there. After all, some take more space than they might initially appear to. Rose bushes might look beautiful, but they also have roots that take huge amounts of space. Miniatures cause fewer problems. Cordon space saving trees can also be a great way to get an impressive bit of growth in a smaller space. You can even get plenty of these trees that produce fruit that you can pick and eat yourself.
Take it above ground
You might not have a lot of square footage on the ground to play with. So what do you with the rest of the colorful blooms you have in mind? Put them elsewhere, of course. For one, it’s a great idea to have some plant-life in the house. There are a lot of low maintenance plants perfect for the indoors, too. But then there are the walls and fences around the garden. Whether you hook them on or hang them from chains, you can put flower pots and baskets anywhere. A bit of imagination can have your garden shining in hundreds of colors.
Get more pollinators in your garden
It’s not just you who can get some use from your garden, either. With the right choice of flowers, you can be doing your bit for the environment. Attracting pollinators to your garden is giving back to the little fellows who helped us cultivate such great gardens. Provide food and water alongside flowers in the garden. For example, butterflies are attracted to muddy puddles. Creating your own could bring you the occasional beautiful visitor. In some areas, you might be able to even create the perfect environment for a hummingbird visit.
