How to Keep Your Air Conditioning Bill Low This Summer

Summers are brutal especially if you live in the south. It is not an uncommon thing for it to hit 100F everyday. Staying cool is one of the most important things this summer and it’s not always the easiest thing. Another thing that is hard to do in the summer is keeping your air conditioning bill from getting too high. Here are some ways to prevent your bills from exploding and keep your home cool at the same time.

Keep blinds closed

One of my favorite parts of the summer is the beautiful bright sunshine. If I can’t be outdoors I love to have all the blinds open and the natural sunlight fill my home. This sounds amazing in theory but in reality this is actually just making my home hotter. Not only are the beautiful sunrays making my home hotter but also it’s making my air conditioning bill higher. As incredible as it is to have all the blinds open the smartest thing we can do this summer is keep the blinds closed and step outside every so often to get your fill of rays.

No in and out

If you have children this is going to be something you work have to extra hard towards and need to monitor closer. Kids love to run in and out of the house playing. When they are playing outside they are constantly remembering something inside they want to play with or changing their minds where they want to play. This is going to be a hard habit to break in your children but when they go outside remind them that they have to stay outside until they are completely done playing. Every time the door opens to your home all that nice cool air that you are paying a fortune for goes rushing out. Keep the doors closed as much as possible this summer.

Repair loose doors or windows

If you have any doors or windows that have come loose and do not fit tightly in their frame you will have a constant flow of hot air seeping into your home making your air condition work harder and your bill higher. This is not something you want. If you are a man fix it! If you have a husband tell him to get off his butt and fix it! If you aren’t either call the closest man you know and beg him to fix it for you! If you are a handy lady fix it! The whole point is that it gets fixed!

Fan

A great tool to aid your air conditioning unit is a fan. Whether you use a ceiling fan or a electric fan, a fan will help circulate the cool air around your home that you’re air conditioning unit it working so hard to produce. This will ultimately cool your home down quicker and take some of the workload off of your air conditioning until and lower the cost of your bill.

While your air conditioning unit is giving out less energy how cool would it be for you to use less energy as well. I found a company called Smith Monitoring that offers some really cool features that do just that. They are one of the top alarm monitoring companies. They offer an app where you can 100% control your security system but not only that you can control your thermostat from anywhere! You can be lying in bed, in the back yard, or at work and control the temperature of your home!
