It’s hard to believe that the year is coming to an end. In fact, it only feels like five minutes ago we were celebrating the start of 2016 with our friends! But here we are at the end of another year. And despite our best efforts at sticking to resolutions back on January, we didn’t manage to fulfill even one! Therefore, it’s time to try and make 2017 the healthiest one yet. After all, we are getting another year older, so it’s time to think about our health! And try and not make silly resolutions that you won’t fulfill (let’s be honest, you are never going to give up that New Girl box set!) Therefore, here are some new year’s resolutions you ought to keep in 2017 for the sake of your health and happiness.
Try and give up smoking
Despite a high proportion of us enjoying a smoke-free life, there is still a percentage of the population who won’t give up their daily cigarette. Whether it’s because they are feeling stressed, or it’s become a common habit, they end up having a couple in the day. And as you might be aware, smoking is such a damaging habit for your health. For one thing, it can put you at higher risk of lung cancer. And you are also in jeopardy of heart disease if you smoke on a daily basis. And it can affect your looks too; say hello to yellow teeth and wrinkles if you smoke every day! Therefore, to start 2017 with a bang, you should aim to try and give up smoking. You can start slowly; reduce your number from day to day. Or you could even consider switching to e-cigarettes which are a healthier way to get your fix. And you can even talk to the doctor about more ways to healthily give up the bad habit. They might suggest cigarette patches or even counseling; after all, it is a form of addiction. And you will be pleased to know that winter is a very good time to give up smoking; read our previous blog for some reasons why!
Consider giving up drinking
It’s easy to end up drinking too much on a night out. After all, you are among friends, so you want to keep up with the rest of them. But drinking too much can have an effect on your health. For one thing, it can start affecting your mood. After all, there is a link between heavy drinking and smoking. Also, drinking too much might cause you to suffer from liver disease. And for some people, they end up needing a replacement. And not only this but drinking too much can lead to an addiction. If you find you need more to feel its effect and are drinking on your own, it could be a sign you require some form of alcohol detox. Therefore, it’s time to give up the booze, so it doesn’t become an issue in your life. Try and drink less on nights out and stick to other non-alcoholic beverages. After all, there are quite a few choices which are just as tasty as spirits!
Look for a new job
There are several reasons why you should consider looking for a new job as a resolution for the new year. For one thing, a new job can be great for your self-esteem. After all, with new responsibilities you can feel more fulfilled and worthy in a position. And if you currently dislike your job, it’s a good idea to move on for the sake of your mental health. After all, so many people end up being signed off with depression or anxiety at the workplace. Therefore, it’s time to move on to a job which leaves you a happier and healthier person.
Get exercising every day
I’m sure a lot of us promised ourselves we would exercise more this year. But with our busy lives, it can often be put to the back of your to-do list. However, exercise is so important if you want to stay healthy. After all, it gets your body healthy and keeps your heart in good form. Therefore, you should try to exercise every day to have a healthier new year. Even if it’s a 10-minute walk around the block, you will feel a lot happier and healthier than doing nothing at all. You might want to hunt down an exercise class to attend which is an excellent way to get fit in the new year. Or you could look into attending a gym; they should have some good deals on as they know everyone wants to work out after the junk food during the holidays!
Try and be more social
There are many benefits to being social in your life. For one thing, it can be excellent for your mental health. After all, you are less likely to be depressed if you are surrounded by great friends. And also getting social is good as it gets you away from sitting indoors in your home. Just make sure you don’t make poor decisions when you are with your friends. If they try and force you to do things you don’t want to do, it’s best to cut them out of your life. After all, toxic friendships are never good for your health!
Eat a healthier diet
With Christmas upon us, it’s hard to think about consuming a healthy diet. After all, we can’t wait to dig into that massive box of chocolates that we got as a gift! However, once Crimbo is over, it’s important to start eating a healthy diet. After all, it can ensure you maintain a healthy weight. And if you eat a good diet, it will prevent you suffering from health issues. Therefore, try and cut out bad foods and eat plenty of delicious fruit and vegetables. Here is further help you need to eat a balanced diet.
So many people end up getting taken advantage of. Whether it’s your employer, friends or family members, it can lead you putting your health in jeopardy. Therefore, it’s time to put yourself first and think about your health and happiness. After all, you don’t want to look back with regret.
